Joanne Mogridge’s path to becoming a chocolatier was random and beautiful. As a trained photographer, Joanne was contracted for a job in Nelson, BC. Nelson is a small town surrounded by nature, and for Joanne a perfect place to live. She asked locals, “how does one get to live here?” to which they responded “Be your own boss”. Out of nowhere, it came to Joanne; “I’ll open a chocolate shop!” From there she left her Photography job to train under a chocolate master in Vancouver. After 2 years she embarked to find the right location to open Cocoa West Chocolatier and settled on Bowen Island, a small and beautiful island of 3,500 people, surrounded by nature.
